In 1998, Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act to require Federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Inaccessible technology interferes with an individual's ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals.
We support the goals of Section 508, which is why we’ve redesigned our site to become more 508 compliant and why we recommend that our clients follow 508 guidelines when developing their own websites. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do.
Some 10-12% of students in US public schools bring one or more learning disabilities with them to school each day. At least one in ten. These students are among those most in need of our clients’ support in the classroom, so we certainly don’t want to shut them out if we can avoid it. We don’t believe you do either.
